Celebrate Hexham’s Roman History with Flavinus Day!

Come and celebrate Roman History on August Bank Holiday Monday at Hexham Abbey. The Abbey will be hosting a free event providing activities and displays celebrating Hexham’s famous Roman Cavalryman, Flavinus!

The event takes place on 27th August, 11.00am – 5.00pm @ Hexham Abbey  just a short stroll from Seal Cottage

Flavinus Day will see a host of free activities and entertainment to celebrate Hexham’s Roman History, plus food to match! The event will appeal to young, old and both avid history fans and total Roman History novices!

There will be a programme of displays and workshops. The event will offer hands-on activities for children including pottery and face painting plus Roman archery and a giant inflatable jousting arena will a popular highlight!

Come and see some Roman infantry tactics and witness shield drill training on the Cloister Lawn at 11am, 1pm & 3pm.

A detailed exhibition will be on display inside the Abbey and tours will be available focusing on an incredible collection of Roman relics. Come and see the famous Flavinus tombstone and celebrate Hexham’s Roman History!
